Before going - basic training
Before dropping all lines and casting off into the blue, the intensive security drill and some basic training is a must and gets done. Knots, throwing lines, basic commandos, but also the SOS, MAYDAY, various signals, operation of the rescue raft and and and - everything is discussed, shown and explained.
-
Crew training
Once on water the crew also needs to get the training in such things as the setting course, how is turning done, how is stopping yacht should be done, how is going in reverse is done. As well, and most important, we discuss how one would rescue a person, which fell over boards. How to get to it, how to throw line to it in the best way, how to get on board and where is the first aid kit.
- Setting course
- Destination - Korfos, restaurant!
- How one can resist?
- Beach
- Soon butterfly?
- What do we do with a drunken sailor!?
- Methana
-
Too healthy!
The Methana's biggest attraction - the famous sulfuric bath. Well, original swimming pool is not usable now. Probably due to the high concentration of sulfuric acid. Or some great government management. Anyway, sulfur gets out in one spot, which is publicly available, and with the lower concentration. There one can swim and enjoy it for free. Or rather , only here one can safely enjoy it. Pool is a ruin now.

Rodon hot spring.
Next to the sulfur bath in Methana there is a hot rodon spring. So we decided to warm ourselves a little bit in it. Originally "let's do it for 5 minutes" extended into 1 hour. One just cannot leave this place. There we met guys from Canada, Ireland, which also wanted to enjoy the warm. So we chatted and chatted and chatted. Time flew like a blink and we learned a lot.

Poros
For the evening we wanted to go to a beautiful anchor bay close to Poros. But our anchor winch problems forced us to get to a mooring buoy. Good enough for us.
Poros harbour was fully packed, so we just made a round, made some photos and left for the evening.
Evening with the board games and cuban cocktails.

Sailing!
Last two days of the trip weather god gave us some bit of Meltemi, blows in some 30ies. Reef in the main and in the jib, trim and go!
Finally we could really enjoy the sailing part of the SAILING vacations. We hit the 8.3 kts! Which is the hull speed for our 40ft yacht. :-) And of course, we overtook all our "competitors".

Sunset in Perdika
As there was a Meltemi blowin', Perdika was fully packed.
No one wanted to be on the water too long so everyone got into the harbour or actually never left. Hence we didn't find place inside of the harbour. So we anchored on left side with some landlines. Was even better. Away from the restairant noise.
Magnifique sunset during the dining in restaurant made this sailing day just perfect.

Racing return
Last day was also full of wind so we still had our racing fun.
To this time even the youngest crew member was comfortable with the yacht and we even could practice some sailing maneuvers.
At the end of the day we dropped our MOB marking buoy in the water. Unintentionally. Good opportunity to recall how the rescue maneuver goes! We got it back on the 4th attempt. Not bad for a thing like which 10 cm wide...
Conclusion
Greece is good sailing location for families and beginners during school vacations. Lets see if I will repeat it next years "-)
