I'm an avid sailor who's always eager to learn and improve, so I'm constantly on the lookout for chances to test my skills. Lately, I've been drawn to Class40 sailing, and I recently had the opportunity to sail the boat numbered 187 (the latest is 198) – an opportunity I jumped on.
Originally, the plan was to take part in the RORC Channel Race. However, being the only Class40 yacht surrounded by other types of boats and dealing with a course that was mainly upwind and downwind, we decided to step back from the race. Instead, we chose to make the most of the wind conditions, and this decision led us on a thrilling three-hour journey to Pool (GB), maintaining an average speed of 18 knots.
The next day was equally impressive. We sailed against the wind at an average speed of 11 knots, making it back to Dielette in just 5.5 hours. The Class40 yacht is a real speedster, quick to reach its top speed and incredibly agile. But like anything impressive, there are challenges to overcome.
Working on tasks like adjusting sails, handling bow work, and hoisting sails in the unpredictable sea conditions was quite a feat. It felt like trying to stand on a yoga ball while getting splashed by waves – not the easiest situation to handle when you're trying to manage sails. Still, I found satisfaction in facing these challenges and getting better at what I do.
I've got some videos and photos that give a glimpse into these adventures, in case you're interested.
Looking forward, I'm on the lookout for people who want to join me in a more relaxed Class40 sailing experience – the Pogo yacht. We're planning an expedition to the Caribbean in February that promises a mix of tranquility and excitement. If this sounds like your kind of adventure, feel free to get in touch. The open waters are calling, and I'm excited to share the experience with fellow sailing enthusiasts.
Here is also a short summary as a cheeryfull video. Enjoy!
Conclusion
I LOVE Class40!!!! Looking forward for the next opportunity. As well we can organize a sailing trip on a class40 yacht (if it will be available, i will request on demand)!
