sailing TRIP!
What clothings do I need?
As during the sailing trip one is exposed to wind and water - one needs the proper clothings, which are wind- and water-proof. Preferably with some breathing membrane.
Gloves, Hat, Jacket, Pants, Fleece and boots - that would be a starter pack. If one does sailing more often, we would suggest to buy a proper sailing gear. Jacket, Salopette and boots are best combination.
Of course there are different versions for different conditions, from sunny day sail up to heavy North Atlantic Storm conditions. And there are plenty of vendors which produce gear in all range of price/quality. If one does sail occasionally only - it is enough to have casual outdoor outfit.
Can I bring a guitar or trumpet on the sailing trip? Will it be an issue?
I enjoy smoking (waterpipe/pipe/cigars/cigarettes/...). Will this be an issue?
Is it possible for me to bring my pet (dog/cat/...) along on a sailing trip?
As a person of faith, I value the practice of prayer and upholding my traditions, even while traveling. Will there be any issues with this on board?
Will I receive a confirmation of miles after the sailing trip?
Can I wear my hiking shoes?
As hiking shoes are designed to cope with rainwater, their membrane gets damaged if exposed to salt water. Therefore we would advise against it. Best is of course special sailing shoes or sailign boots. Or some footwear gym and general rubber (white) boots.
Another reason against hiking shoes is, that these shoes leave marks on the deck.
In description of the trip, different locations to visit are listed. Will we visit them?
No, these are only ideas for the possible sailing area, the highlights so to say.
Actual route depends on wind, weather, safety, logistics and wishes of the crew.
Can one rely on the presented route?
Not entirely, this is only an expample of the route.
Actual route depends on weather, safety, ideas and wishes of the crew.
If due to some reason one requires to visit some specific harbour, one needs to communicate it early enough to the skipper, so one plans it accordingly or one learns early enough that that wont be possible and can arrange some alternative.
Are there some other tasks during the sailing trip, besides of sailing and fun?
Of course!
Typicsl sailing trp consist of steering, navigating, maneovering yacht, trimming sails, watching out the traffic, comminicating with the land, with another yachts, preparing next meal, telling stories of ones ilfe, sharing of ones dreams, of ones plans, reading books, watching wild life, making fotos and videos, discussing, where best to drop the anchor, comparing, who dove deeper on last stop, and whose sting ray has been more majestic.
Of course there is plenty to do!
Does one overnight on board or in a hotel?
Typically one overnights on board as we never take more cerew on board than there are places to sleep.
But if someone prefers to overnight in hotel, we cannot prohibit it as long it doesn't influence the organization of the sailing trip. The cost of the hotel is considered as personal cost and is covered by the participant.
How much sailing per day?
It depends highly on the trip organization and on the weather conditions.
You find the planned sailing leg durations in the description of every trip. The skipper can decide to adjust the lenght of the legs if necessary for safety or for the logistics. Crew wishes are taken into account as well.
Do I have to be able to swim?
Not really.
Generally, on all sailing trips of Rocket Science Sailing, every participant is required to wear a rescue jacket of request of skipper or on own feeling of safety. However, in case one falls overboard, it is better to be able to swim. No to catch to the boat, but rather to not to panic and to wait calmly for the rescue.
How to behave in water in this case is the topic of the safety instructions before every sailing trip!
Is there a shower/toilet on the yacht?
I would state, that 90% percent of modern yachts have toilet and shower. However...
some of the trip might happen on some high performance racing yacht, which due to sparing of the weight, doesn't have shower. Then it is spartan sporting sailing trip from the programs "Adults Only" or "Sailing emotions."
On a typical, modern yacht, there is at least one toilet and a shower, so one should not worry about it. However, one has to take into consideration the limited capacity of the water tanks (few hundred liters). We will fill up water tanks whenever it is possible (in marinas). Many marinas have great facilities as well.
Is sightseeing possible?
Of course.
If it is possible, we try to include sightseeing in the visited cities, but we do not organize any specific sightseeing ahead.
If safety of the trip or its logistics requires one might cancel sightseeing activities in order to get to safe harbour in time.
Do we leave the harbor at any weather conditions?
No. The skipper makes the decision if the conditions are safe to leave/enter the harbor.
If this decision influents participant's plans of further journey (flight/train connections), she/he should inform the skipper ahead and rearrange her/his plans. Any costs are covered by the participant.
